What is the purpose of belt testing.

When you first walk into our academy, you will notice that various students wear different colored belts and may wonder why. Out of respect for traditional martial-arts heritage, we at ATC use color belts to denote accomplishment of skill. As you move forward in your training, you, like thousands of students who have gone before you, will be allowed to wear the colored belt that shows your level of achievement. 

Within a few months of joining ATC and with the required class credit, you will be eligible to attend your first belt test. After demonstrating your skill in several of the basic techniques that you will have already learned, you will be awarded your first belt rank of yellow belt.  With each color belt you will receive an ATC certificate of promotion and any pertaining awards and patches.  As you get further along in your training, belt tests will take longer to complete.  All tests are operated by your academy instructor, in front of a board of Masters.

As in elementary school, students are graded as individuals on a scale of A to D, so comparing them to others will not benefit you or any child. Once a student reaches Deputy belt there will be a waiting period of 6-24 months to ensure each student can qualify for Black Belt Grade.

To qualify for 1st Dan Black Belt all forms, sparring drills, kicking drills, hand drills and top academic grades are required.  More than 4 mistakes is a failing grade. To prevent this, students are pre-tested at Deputy Belt to check their performance and assist them with any items they have forgotten over the years of training.

So as to maintain a top notch academy and motivated students A minimal testing fee is charged to cover cost for Visiting Masters and Instructors Time, Large Facility Rental, New Belts, Breaking Materials, Certificate, Trophies, Patches and any Special Awards.

All our instructors are fulltime highly educated martial art instructors, which gives you the professionalism and qualification you deserve.

Note: There are academies that don't charge for testing because they are not accredited or a even a recognized style in Korea, Japan or China. Remember the old adage you get what you pay for.
